I came across this picture when I was looking through some old photos.
It is John Cook when he played for Whitburn in 1962, age 20.
John is the older brother of our Treasurer Robert Cook.
John played in the same team as Danny Kilpatrick, John Cooper, Johnny Fordyce and John Lambie.
John also played for Ancel Babes at the same time as Ian St. John, he was at Hearts when Willie Bauld was nearing the end of his career, and at the age of 21 in his final season at Whitburn he got a trial with Celtic in a reserve game against Third Lanark. He had a goal chopped off in a 0-0 game. The reserve team that night included Jimmy Johnstone and John Hughes. He retired at the age of 21 due to a knee injury he had sustained playing for Motherwell.
John still lives locally.
